Academia needs proper role in Horizon Europe, Commission told

Researchers must have a say in how the EU’s next R&D programme allocates funding, and it should support more collaborative research, a group of universities has said.

“The voice of the scientific community has to be heard in the implementation of Horizon Europe in a structured and sustained manner,” the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities said in a paper published on 9 April.

This should include setting up expert groups with representatives from academia, industry and civil society, to advise on the six thematic clusters that will form the majority of the programme’s second pillar on Global Challenges and Industrial Competitiveness, the guild said.
