The European Association of Research and Technology Organisations has warned that plans to give researchers cash for a research project in a single payment should be treated with caution.
In a set of papers, published on 30 April, Earto summarised feedback from its member institutions, including those that took part in a trial of the simplified payment scheme.
“Many issues have been encountered”, the association said. For example, projects have been divided up into slimmer work packages to reduce financial risk, but this setup increases fragmentation and could hurt future collaboration, it said.
