The head of the European Commission’s directorate general for research and innovation has unveiled a reorganisation designed to improve cooperation with other departments.
In a tweet on 30 April, the Commission’s director-general for research and innovation Jean-Eric Paquet said that the shake-up of the directorate general he oversees was about “opening our windows to allow people and ideas to flow differently”. He added that the redesign would allow the directorate general to “break down silos”.
Speaking to the news site Science Business, Paquet said the change would mean that oversight of the EU’s 2021-27 R&D programme Horizon Europe—in particular of its budget—could be more easily shared with other Commission directorates general.
