Research organisations have called on the European Commission to use the EU’s 2021-27 R&D programme Horizon Europe to fund riskier initiatives.
“We support the highest value over time,” Marta Agostinho, a coordinator at the EU-Life alliance of 13 life sciences institutes, told Research Europe. “This means investing in higher risk research.”
EU Life published recommendations for Horizon Europe’s planned health-themed “cluster” funding stream in June. Similar suggestions have been flooding in, as the Commission has opened a consultation on the strategic planning process that will determine what projects Horizon Europe will fund.
