An EU R&D mission on cancer is likely to include an emphasis on prevention, experts on the mission advisory board have told Research Europe after their first meeting.
The cancer initiative is one of the targeted missions being developed to tackle societal problems as a major new method of delivering research funding in the next EU R&D scheme, Horizon Europe.
“The cancer mission has power and means and brains behind it to change the paradigm from treatment to prevention in Europe,” said Andres Metspalu, director of the Estonian Genome Center of the University of Tartu, after the 3 September event in Brussels.
