ERC looks to non-EU money to meet productivity target

‘Pay-as-you-go’ contribution rule for Horizon Europe is “excellent news”, say flagship funder’s leaders

European Research Council leaders have said top-ups to the flagship funder’s budget from non-EU countries associating to the 2021-27 EU R&D programme, Horizon Europe, will help it meet “challenging” productivity targets for the period.

In their foreword to the ERC’s 2020 annual report, published on 13 April, the funder’s interim president Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and its three vice-presidents said the decision by politicians that Horizon Europe would adopt a ‘pay-as-you-go’ principle was “of great importance” to the ERC.
