The European Parliament is locked in a battle with the EU’s member states over the fate of hundreds of millions of euros of unspent research money
Parliament wants to plough back into research €836 million of this money in 2023. But standing in the way is a previous agreement with the Commission and member state ministers in the Council of the EU made in 2020 that says only up to €500m can be spent between 2021 and 2027.
