Silos reducing impact of EU R&D funding, auditors find

Commission accepts recommendations for improving ‘synergies’ between main research and innovation funding streams

The EU should do more to improve how its two main sources of research and innovation funding work together, auditors have said in a report that the European Commission has largely accepted.

During the 2014-20 EU budget period, the legal bases for the bloc’s R&I funding programme and its programme for funding regional development mentioned for the first time the need for ‘synergies’ between the programmes.
