ERC set to broaden its use of lump-sum funding in 2024

   

Funder says Advanced Grant pilot of payment method is dependent on safeguarding flexibility of funding

The European Research Council has “conditionally” decided to trial the use of lump-sum funding for one of its major grant schemes in 2024.

Under lump-sum funding, researchers must submit more detailed spending plans in their grant applications, but grantees are not required to provide detailed tracking of their costs. The funding mode omits the administrative burden of financial audits, and has been found to be less error-prone than the EU’s more traditional system.
