UK drops from second to sixth for ERC Proof of Concept grants

Four researchers in UK awarded grants in latest announcement, down from seven in previous round

UK-based researchers have received only the sixth-most awards in the latest round of the European Research Council’s Proof of Concept grants, down from the second-most in the previous round.

The outcome could spark fears that the country’s dire political relationship with the EU is affecting engagement with the bloc’s research and innovation funding programme, Horizon Europe, which the ERC is part of.
