EU R&I funding found to benefit companies in only certain sectors

Analysis by Commission officials finds companies in just two sectors attained lasting financial gains

Winning EU research and innovation grants has provided lasting financial benefits for companies in only a minority of sectors, according to an analysis by European Commission officials.

The analysis, published on 23 November, was carried out by Alessio Mitra and Konstantinos Niakaros, officials in the Commission’s R&I department who sought to tease out the effects of companies winning grants from the EU’s 2014-2020 R&I programme, Horizon 2020.
