Small increases for ERC and MSCA in 2024 EU budget deal

Flagship research funding schemes receive less than 1 per cent above draft budget

The deal reached on the EU’s 2024 budget will provide small increases for the European Research Council and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions schemes.

As a result of this year’s financial tussle between EU member state governments, the European Parliament and the European Commission, the bloc’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme has been given a €12.9 billion budget for 2024—€85 million (0.7 per cent) more than the initial proposal from the Commission.
