Christian Ehler promises to fight proposed funding cuts in next EU financial plan

Negotiations to slash the European research budget by €2.1 billion in the next financial plan have prompted outrage from the research sector and members of the European Parliament.

The 15 December deal was supported by all member states except Hungary. Victor Orban, the country’s prime minister, blocked the proposal over a dispute about providing support for Ukraine while Budapest has been unable to access certain funds.
