Horizon Europe budget ‘too small’ for all top-quality projects

Majority of high-quality proposals to EU’s R&D scheme are not receiving funding

The budget for the EU’s €95.5 billion R&D funding scheme Horizon Europe is “too small”, meaning the majority of high-quality projects are not funded, according to a report.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation warned in the report on 25 May that while the scheme’s success rates are higher than those of its predecessor Horizon 2020, “71 per cent of the high-quality proposals are still not receiving funding because the budget is too small”.
