The successes and setbacks of the Human Brain Project

Hailed as a mega-project with the potential to change millions of lives when it launched with a €1 billion budget in 2013, the Human Brain Project is spending this summer winding down. 

The completion of a final project summit in March marked the beginning of the end of the decade-long effort to uncover the secrets of the human brain. Since then, scientists on the HBP—which is finishing in September having spent around €600 million—have been looking back and reminiscing about the controversial scheme.
