Research commissioner ‘not happy’ with Horizon Europe cut

Effectiveness and efficiency improvements needed to offset funding shortage, says Iliana Ivanova

The EU commissioner responsible for the bloc’s research and innovation programme has expressed her displeasure at politicians’ decision to cut about €2 billion from the remainder of its 2021-27 budget period.

The European Parliament and Council of the EU member state governments agreed on the cut to the Horizon Europe R&I programme last week; the funding will be reallocated to political priorities, including supporting Ukraine.
