No plan to cut Horizon Europe in 2024, Commission confirms

EU budget change, including €2 billion R&D cut, will mostly take effect from 2025

A €2 billion cut to the remaining budget of Horizon Europe is not expected to affect the programme’s overall spending level in 2024, Research Professional News can reveal.

Last month, the Council of the EU member state governments and MEPs agreed a €2.1bn cut to the EU’s 2021-27 research and innovation programme—partly offset by the return of €100 million in unspent funds—as part of a broader revision of the bloc’s 2021-27 budget framework.
