Switzerland expected to associate to EU’s research and innovation programme next year, ending long freeze-out
The Swiss and EU research and innovation communities have reacted with delight and relief to the news that politicians have started talks on the country joining the bloc’s Horizon Europe R&I programme.
The EU barred Switzerland from associating to its various research programmes when the Swiss government walked away from talks on a broad cooperation agreement with the bloc in May 2021. Areas of disagreement included workers’ rights and state aid rules.
