European Research Council president calls for next EU R&D programme to “strengthen” funder’s independence

Leaders of the European Research Council will request more autonomy for the flagship funder of basic research in the next iteration of the EU’s R&D programme, according to its president.

In an article published in the Foundation for Science and Technology Journal, ERC president Maria Leptin said: “We will call upon the European Commission and its partners to strengthen the ERC’s independence and autonomy under Framework Programme 10.”
