Infrastructure plan updated

Support for nuclear fusion and studies of the Holocaust have been listed as priorities for Europe’s future research infrastructure.

Six large-scale infrastructure projects were added to the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures roadmap as priorities for preparatory funding, in an update revealed on 11 September. The update is “a vivid demonstration” of how Europe can collaborate on a sustainable plan for research infrastructure, according to a statement from the Esfri Forum, a group of senior policy officials and researchers from member states that compiles the roadmap.

Funding for these projects is now almost assured. The forum was set up in 2002 to provide strategic advice to policymakers and funders and has shaped the direction of EU research infrastructure projects since then.
