Dutch offer to become sixth partner for SKA telescope

The Netherlands has announced that it will back the construction and operation phases of the Square Kilometre Array telescope, making it the sixth country to commit to the project.

Six countries, including the Netherlands, are expected to sign an agreement setting up the SKA Observatory as an intergovernmental organisation responsible for the construction and operation of the telescope at a ceremony in Rome on 12 March, the SKA Organisation announced on 28 January.

The SKA Organisation, which is responsible for the design of the telescope, said the Netherlands had also confirmed that it will contribute €30 million to the observatory.
