Move follows nearly four decades of research participation

Croatia has become an associate member state of Europe’s particle physics laboratory Cern, giving it a say in how the organisation is run and increasing opportunities for the country’s research organisations.

By gaining associate membership on 10 October, Croatia claimed a seat on Cern’s governing council. Representatives of the country will also be able to attend meetings of Cern’s finance and science policy committees.
