Funders release draft terms for publishers wanting to keep income while making journals open access
The funders behind the open access publishing initiative Plan S have outlined the rules journals must follow to receive their money. The guidance is part of their push to ‘transform’ publications to full open access.
Under Plan S, funders will require researchers to make their publications openly available immediately and in approved publications from 2021. Any publications that are not fully open access will only be deemed acceptable if they have agreed deals to become so in the near future.
