Software error blamed for delay of mission launch

A European mission to study planets outside the solar system, which was due to launch on 17 December, has been postponed because of what has been described as a “software error” with the launcher.

The launch of the Cheops Characterising Exoplanets Satellite mission was called off during the countdown process 85 minutes before the scheduled lift-off.
