Funders of radical open-access initiative set out rules for transforming journals
The extent and speed of changes demanded by the radical open-access initiative Plan S have been revealed by work showing how many researchers currently use journals with policies that the initiative hopes to stamp out.
Participating funders under the Coalition S umbrella will require those they support to make all work available immediately in fully open access outlets from 2021. Publication in hybrid journals that mix open and subscription content will only be permitted if they are moving to be fully open by the end of 2024.
