Cybersecurity research centre gains Council backing

National government representatives have endorsed EU plans to set up a European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Centre that will oversee a network of national cybersecurity centres.

On 13 March, a committee of the Council of the EU gave the Council presidency permission to start negotiations with the European Parliament and European Commission on setting up the centre and network.

The Council confirmed that one role of the centre will be to coordinate cybersecurity R&D, including by implementing funding from the EU’s 2021-27 R&D and digital innovation programmes Horizon Europe and Digital Europe.
