The European Commission says it will try again to build an open-access publishing platform for research it funds through the Framework programme, after a previous attempt ended in failure.
On 24 April the Commission said it will “soon launch” a second chance for companies to bid to design, build and run a platform offering a venue for open-access publication of work funded by Horizon 2020, the 2014-20 Framework programme.
Last year, the Commission offered €6.4 million to build a platform publishing 5,600 peer-reviewed articles over four years. But it ended that tender in November 2018 after none of the proposals met its requirements. Another call was initially promised in weeks, but this then changed to “eventually”.
