Aerospace giants Thales and Airbus land contracts to build satellites for navigation system
The European Commission has awarded contracts worth €1.47 billion to the aerospace companies Thales and Airbus to build 12 satellites for the EU’s Galileo navigation system.
The Commission said the 21 January award was “initiating the launch of the 2nd Generation of Galileo”, referring to the technologies that will appear on the craft, such as digitally configurable antennas, new atomic clocks and electric propulsion systems.
