Funders call for more joined-up monitoring of open access

Guidelines from Science Europe highlight rapidly changing nature of scholarly publishing

Science Europe, the association of research funders and performers, has called for better-aligned efforts to monitor initiatives on open-access publishing in a briefing paper with guidelines for its members and similar organisations.

“Although purpose, timeframe and other parameters might differ between organisations interested in monitoring open access, an aligned implementation and collaboration can improve the impact these efforts will have,” says the paper by authors including Tobias Philipp, an open-access coordinator at the Swiss National Science Foundation.
