Auditors seek stronger research voice in EU statistics advice

Evaluation finds that advisory body should be “more inclusive”

Researchers should have a stronger voice in how the EU produces official statistics, according to the European Court of Auditors.

In a report published on 29 November, auditors gave the European Commission a “passing grade” in how it provides statistics through its Eurostat statistical service. But they warned of a number of weaknesses, including the need for better representation of the users of statistics in official advisory bodies.
