Member countries agree to cover cost hike after Covid-19 pandemic delays construction by two years
The European Spallation Source, a particle accelerator research facility being built in Sweden, has announced that its members plan to stump up an extra €550 million to cover additional costs caused by construction delays during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ESS announced last year that there would be a two-year delay for the facility as the pandemic had affected deliveries to suppliers and installation work on the site in Lund. The organisation revised its project plan and estimated it would cost over half a billion euros extra for the facility to be completed by its new target date of 2027.
