Gas shortages linked to Russian invasion of Ukraine are forcing institutions to make backup plans
Research institutions across Europe are preparing for a bleak winter and are taking action to cut their energy use as fuel prices spike—due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine—and the threat of power cuts looms.
Multiple universities and institutes told Research Professional News they were looking for backup power and alternatives to gas-powered heating. Many will be turning thermostats down this winter, while power-hungry major facilities could even shut down planned activities.
