Diamond open access looks to go global

Unesco offers to host international federation promoting open access with no charges

Unesco has offered to host a global federation for diamond open access as part of a major push to boost the model, which demands no costs for researchers publishing their work.

A representative of the UN’s scientific and cultural organisation made the announcement to applause at a global meeting of open-access advocates in Mexico last month. Unesco is already a major supporter of open access, having launched a declaration on open science in 2021 to set international standards in the area.
