Varied progress reported on European ‘data spaces’

Commission calls for stakeholder commitments to help facilitate flow of information to boost innovation

Progress in creating ‘data spaces’ to facilitate the flow of data across European borders and boost innovation—in particular around artificial intelligence—has been variable, the European Commission has reported.

Fourteen such data spaces are being set up to provide secure data access, by creating infrastructure for sharing and processing and establishing usage rules. The work is being funded by the EU’s research and digital programmes.
