Open-access group stops seeking best model and switches to developing framework for evaluating fairness

The funders behind the Plan S initiative have shifted the focus of their attempt to find ways to move away from the use of article-processing charges to pay for open-access scholarly publishing.

Coalition S—a group of mainly European funders requiring papers reporting research they have supported to be made openly available immediately on publication—has been working since September on finding the best way for research organisations to stop paying APCs.
