The EU wants to tackle the “systemic gap” between countries that are good at using design to boost innovation, and those that lack the infrastructure and understanding to do so, according to an action plan released by the European Commission.
The plan aims to exploit design’s potential to improve innovation and growth by promoting the understanding of the impact of design on innovation and increasing product development that is primarily driven by design.
According to a Commission statement, 21 per cent of European companies use design as a way to encourage innovation. However, in many other places this potential is not yet being fully exploited, the statement explains.
