Focus on digital skills in Lithuania

Lithuania has launched a national coalition to boost training and cooperation in information and communications technologies, at a digital innovation event in Vilnius.

In a memorandum of understanding, signed by 11 government, industry and academic institutions, the groups commit to improving digital training and ICT skills. The move follows a European Commission initiative to tackle unemployment in the ICT sector, through a Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs launched in March.

“I am certain that the Lithuanian Coalition will become an inspiring model for other member states,” said the EU commissioner for the digital agenda, Neelie Kroes. “The coalition has a huge task, and I encourage them to look into using the structural funds, particularly the European Social Fund and the Youth Employment Initiative to bring digital skills to Europe’s lost generation.”
