Commission tracks progress of smart grid technology

The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has updated its inventory of research, development and demonstration projects relating to smart electricity grids.

The inventory, intended to map smart grid development across Europe, shows there are currently 281 projects across the EU, Croatia, Switzerland and Norway.

According to the latest figures, the UK, Germany, France and Italy are the leading investors in smart grid projects, whilst Denmark is the country most actively involved in small-scale R&D.
