The European Space Agency has launched a Space Weather Coordination Centre in Brussels, Belgium, on 5 April.
ESA’s centre will gather information about the Sun as part of the agency’s Space Situational Awareness Programme. The centre will be used by research institutes and governments, as well as satellite operators, telecommunications and navigation companies.
The centre will be run on behalf of ESA by the Royal Observatory Belgium, the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, and two companies called Space Applications Services and Spacebel.
