Cern restarts the LHC at increased energy

Cern has restarted the Large Hadron Collider after a two-year break, increasing the energy of its collisions to almost twice the level previously achieved.

Since 5 April, the LHC has fired particle beams at energies of 13 TeV, almost twice the 7 TeV it reached when it was first tested in 2008.

The 27-kilometre accelerator was meant to restart on mid March, but electrical problems postponed the event.
