The Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has announced it will set up a European Research Institute to boost the company’s presence in Europe.
Huawei made the announcement at the European Business Summit in Brussels on 7 May. The institute, to be located in Leuven, Belgium, will oversee the company’s 18 R&D sites in eight European countries. The research activities will focus on next-generation digital technologies and the aim is to strengthen Huawei’s partnerships with Europe’s industry, the company said in a statement.
The institute also aims to support Huawei’s 5G projects already underway in Europe, including a joint project on mobile networks at the University of Surrey in the UK.
