The European Space Agency has narrowed down the research topic for its planned 2025 launch to three projects on exoplanets, plasma physics and X-ray emissions in space.
The three projects were shortlisted from 27 proposals by a peer-review committee on 4 June. The selected projects are: the Atmospheric Remote-sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large-survey (Ariel), the Turbulence Heating Observer (Thor) and the X-ray Imaging Polarimetry Explorer (Xipe).
One of these three projects will form the focus of ESA’s 4th so-called medium-class mission, due to launch in 2025. The decision on which project will be chosen is expected to take place in the next year.
