EU backs loans for energy, health

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank have launched two additional streams to fund R&D on energy and health under the Horizon 2020 loan programme.

The research commissioner Carlos Moedas made the announcement at an event in Riga on 15 June. The two streams will be added to the InnovFin programme, run under Horizon 2020 to loan money for applied research and commercialisation.

The InnovFin Energy Demo Projects will support industrial demonstration projects on renewable energy and hydrogen and fuel cell technology, and the InnovFin Infectious Diseases stream will support projects on drugs, vaccines and medical diagnostic services. A total of €100m has been allocated to each of the two programmes, the Commission said.
