Gravitational waves: Commission highlights European dimension

The European Commission is celebrating EU funded scientists’ contribution to confirmation of Einstein's theory of gravitational waves.

Nine early career researchers, supported by Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions, worked in the gravitational wave direct detection team, according to a Commission press release.

On 11 February physicists at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) announced the discovery of clear gravitational wave signals, ripples in spacetime first predicted by Albert Einstein a century ago.
