Bioeconomy knowledge centre launched

The European Commission has set up an online platform to help policymakers use scientific evidence to support the creation of economic growth from biological resources.

The main aim of the Bioeconomy Knowledge Centre is not to generate information itself, but instead to “collect, structure and make accessible knowledge from a wide range of scientific disciplines and sources on the bioeconomy”, the Commission said in a statement. It defined the bioeconomy as “the sustainable production of renewable biological resources and their conversion into valuable products”.

The Commission’s science service—the Joint Research Centre—and its research directorate general will run the centre, which was launched on 20 July.
