Liftoff for Earth observation satellites

Two monitoring satellites have been successfully launched into orbit—one for Italy and the other for France and Israel.

The satellites were launched on an Arianespace Vega rocket in the early hours of the morning from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, Arianespace announced today.

Optsat-3000, the Italian satellite, will provide Italy’s defence ministry with high-resolution images of the Earth. It is expected to stay in orbit for seven years, the European Space Agency said.
