Commission warned of ‘urgent’ need for industrial strategy

Business groups have joined governments in calling on the European Commission to set out an industrial strategy for Europe.

The EU needs to quickly develop a strategy for businesses and services to work together, the industry lobby group Business Europe said in a position paper published on 6 September.

The paper calls on the bloc to reject “protectionist tendencies” and develop a collective approach to European industry. With this approach Europe can help businesses adapt to digitisation, automation and the low-carbon economy, it says.
