Global R&D data platform launched

The European Commission and the OECD have created a website for researchers and policymakers to access science, technology and innovation data on more than 50 countries.

The STIP Compass, which launched on 27 April, incorporates more than 500 data visualisation tools and a search facility. Its main data source is the biennial STI Policy survey, which is carried out jointly by the Commission and the OECD and has been running for 20 years.

“The portal supports the continuous monitoring and analysis of countries’ science, technology and innovation policies and aims to become a central platform for policy research and advice supporting government officials, analysts and scholars,” the platform website says. “Data is freely accessible following the FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable).”
