European Space Agency wants to upgrade module on International Space Station

The European Space Agency has called on companies to help it modernise Europe’s Columbus laboratory aboard the International Space Station. Expectations that the ISS will keep running until 2030 present an opportunity for enhancing the lab’s capabilities to support space science beyond 2024, ESA said on 10 October.

“The extension of space station operations is a positive step in ESA’s work to increase space access for European researchers and boost industry capability Europe-wide,” said Frank De Winne, head of ESA’s astronaut centre.
