Commission makes €525m available for defence projects

The European Commission has launched a two-year work programme that will disperse half a billion euros for defence technology projects, as well as calls offering €25 million for defence R&D.

Calls for the final €25m being disbursed under the EU’s multi-year Preparatory Action on Defence Research launched on 19 March. They focus on the use of the electromagnetic spectrum and on future disruptive technologies that could transform the military.

On the same day, the Commission also adopted the first work programme to co-finance industrial technology projects under the European Defence Industrial Development Programme. Nine calls for 2019 will launch in the coming days, followed by 12 calls for 2020 at a later date.
